How Kall Search works
Kall Search is a simple search engine for frum homes and businesses. You type a search, and you get a plain list of text results. There is no image search and no thumbnails.
Where results come from
- Kall Search's own index. Our crawler reads pages from a hand-picked list of trusted kosher websites (kashrus agencies like OU Kosher, Star-K and cRc, halacha sites like Halachipedia, Din Online and Daily Halacha, Torah sites like Ohr Somayach and OU Torah, kosher food and travel guides, and the Kall apps). Every page is checked by the kosher filter before it is stored, and only then can it show up in your results. The index lives on Kall's own servers; no outside search company is used.
- Torah texts from Sefaria, the free library of Jewish texts.
- Encyclopedia articles from Wikipedia, filtered the same way, shown in a small box beside the results.
- Kall apps that match your search, like Kall Siddur for zmanim or Kall Local for kosher food.
The index does not cover the whole internet. It starts with a few thousand pages from trusted sites and grows as more sites are added. Our crawler identifies itself as “KallSearch/1.0”, follows each site's robots.txt rules and reads slowly so it never burdens a website.
The kosher filter
Every search is checked before it runs, every page is checked before it enters the index, and every result is checked again (its title, its text and its address). Searches about these topics are not answered, and results about them are removed:
- Immodest or adult content
- LGBT topics
- Dating
- Violence and weapons
- Gambling
- Secular music
- News and politics
- Movies and TV
- Social media
- Images of women
- Missionary content
- Drugs and piracy
Whole websites in these areas are blocked too. When a search is blocked you will see: “Kall Search can't help with that topic.”
No filter is perfect. If something gets through that shouldn't, please tell us on Kall Feedback and we will block it.
Kall Search does not show ads. Websites you open from the results are run by others.
